The DA will submit an urgent motion asking Dawid Kruiper municipality to dismiss seven employees who were appointed and promoted without the municipality following applicable regulatory measures such as advertising, shortlisting and the conducting of interviews.

This follows a court order delivered by the Labour Court last week, in respect of the matter between the Municipal & Allied Trade Union and others vs The David Kruiper Local Municipality and others.

On 25 May 2022, the court ordered that seven appointments and promotions into positions on Dawid Kruiper’s organizational structure, which had taken effect from 1 May 2017, were unlawful.

The subsequent order dated 26 August 2022, goes further to state that the respective appointments and promotions must be set aside and that Dawid Kruiper municipality must appoint people into these positions, in strict accordance with procedure.

In a municipality as ravaged by irregular appointments as Dawid Kruiper, the DA considers the judgment a nail in the coffin of cadre deployment, which has seen the ANC flouting regulations to appoint who it wants, with no regard for due process, at a direct cost to service delivery and astute financial management.

The DA will continue to fight against cadre deployment and to push for fit-for-purpose appointments in Dawid Kruiper municipality, starting with the seven positions currently under the spotlight.

We are also eagerly awaiting the outcome of another case under review, whereby Dawid Kruiper municipality was found to have flouted Human Resource processes in the appointment of three former ANC councillors, as we build up a strong defence against the destructive policy of cadre deployment.

Issued by Henk Opperman, Cllr - Dawid Kruiper Municipality
