ActionSA slams DA for collapsing CoJ mayoral talks as Al Jama-ah's Kabelo Gwamanda is elected

ActionSA has criticised the Democratic Alliance for collapsing a “legitimate and real moonshot pact” opportunity to keep the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters out of the City of Johannesburg.
This comes as Al Jama-ah's Kabelo Gwamanda was elected as mayor.

He won against the DA’s Mpho Phalatse and ActionSA’s Funzi Ngubeni with 139 votes out of 266.

The DA pushed for its own mayoral candidate Palatse, when ActionSA and the Inkatha Freedom Party, Freedom Front Plus, African Christian Democratic Party, United Independent Movement and Patriotic Alliance confirmed willingness to support ActionSA’s candidate Ngobeni.

ActionSA noted that with Ngobeni being supported by ActionSA, IFP, FF Plus, ACDP and the UIM, the DA could have given Ngobeni’s candidature a majority to keep the ANC and EFF out of Joburg, however, the DA refused.

Loadshedding will be reduced to Stages 3 and 4 over the weekend

Power utility Eskom says that, as a result of lower weekend demand and the return to service of some generating units, Stage 3 and 4 loadshedding will be implemented this weekend.

Since yesterday morning, a generating unit each at Hendrina, Lethabo and Tutuka power stations have returned to service.

Over the past 24 hours a generation unit each at Camden, Kendal, Majuba, and two generating units at Duvha power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns.

Furthermore, the delay in returning units to service at Arnot, Camden, Hendrina, Kendal and Matla power stations continue to add to the current capacity constraints.

Breakdowns are currently at 17 245 MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 4 468 MW.

And, UN refugee agency calls on governments not to return people to Sudan

The United Nations refugee agency has called on governments to allow civilians fleeing Sudan into their territory and not to send them back to the conflict-torn country.

This applies to Sudanese nationals, to foreign nationals, including refugees who are being hosted in Sudan, stateless persons, as well as those who do not have a passport or any other form of identification.

The conflict in Sudan has forced about 100 000 people to flee to neighbouring countries, according to the UN, and has hindered aid deliveries in a country where about one-third of people already relied on humanitarian assistance.
