Eskom implements stage 4 load-shedding

Eskom has announced that Stage 4 load-shedding will be implemented from 9am on Wednesday morning until 5am on Friday due to further failures of generation units at Duvha, Camden, Kendal and Kusile.

Thereafter, load-shedding will be lowered to Stage 2 until 05:00 on Monday.

The power utility said these units still need to ramp up to full output, which necessitates a high usage of emergency generation reserves today.

Total breakdowns amount to 15 439 megawatts while planned maintenance is 5 505 megawatts of capacity.

Busisiwe Mkhwebane's CR17 report now legally dead as ConCourt dismisses her last challenge

After years of legal battling, Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's report on President Cyril Ramaphosa's CR17 campaign is finally dead, after the Constitutional Court dismissed her final bid to revive it.

In her CR17 report, Mkhwebane wrongly found that then-deputy president Ramaphosa had violated the Executive Ethics Code, by mistakenly stating that a payment made to his election campaign by corruption-accused Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson was for consultancy work done by his son Andile. The code makes it an offence to deliberately mislead the National Assembly.

Justice Chris Jafta said on behalf of the Constitutional Court that Mkhwebane had changed the wording of the Ethics Code to conclude the Ramaphosa had violated it.

He said what was done by the Public Protector exceeded the parameters of interpretation.

No new deaths recorded in SA in past 24 to 48 hours as Covid cases climb by 1 436  

No Covid-19-related deaths were reported in the last 24 to 48 hours in South Africa.

As of Tuesday, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases said the country recorded 1 436 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to over 3-million.

This increase represents a 5.5% positivity rate.

Most new cases were recorded in Gauteng, which accounted for 35% of new infections, followed by the Western Cape with 23% and KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 18%.

There has been an increase of 46 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.
