A patient who was suspected to have contracted the deadly coronavirus, and who had been held in isolation at the Ellisras Hospital in Lephalale, has been cleared and will be discharged from hospital.

According to Limpopo health department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana, the patient was taken into isolation as a precautionary measure after he developed a high fever and other symptoms consistent with a respiratory disease.

The patient works at the Grobler's Bridge border crossing between South Africa and Botswana and was considered as a high-risk case because it is a point of entry.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases have assured South Africans that so far there are no cases of coronavirus in the country.

ANC says Jacob Zuma is a 'law-abiding citizen

The ANC has described Jacob Zuma as a "law-abiding citizen who has consistently respected the courts", calling on the public to be patient and allow the court to deal with the former president's corruption matter.

On Tuesday, the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg issued a warrant of arrest after Zuma failed to appear for the sitting of his fraud and corruption case.

His legal team told the court he was too ill to appear while the judge raised questions about the alterations in Zuma’s sick note.

Eskom to implement Stage 2 load-shedding continuously

Eskom said on Wednesday morning it would implement Stage 2 load-shedding continuously until Thursday morning as electricity capacity constraints did not allow it to give clients respite during morning and afternoon peak traffic periods.

Eskom said stage 2 rotational load-shedding is currently in effect until 06:00am tomorrow, when the situation will be reviewed.

The power utility warned last week that the country should expect rolling power cuts to be a fixture for the foreseeable future.

Also making headlines:

Nigeria has begun working on the security and information sharing requirements for the lifting of a US travel ban on prospective immigrants from the African nation.
