The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has granted the State Capture Inquiry another extension to finalise the remaining reports.

It has been reported that commission chairperson Chief Justice Raymond Zondo had approached the court for a six-week extension to finish the last part of the report.

Part five of the report includes investigations into the South African Broadcasting Corporation, the State Security Agency, Estina Dairy Farm, the Waterkloof landing by associates of the Gupta family, and the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.

Judge Anthony Millar said he had read the papers and was satisfied that a case had been made for the relief sought, which is an extension to 15 June 2022.

DA calls for appointment of DPWI acting DG to be set aside

The DA is calling for the immediate withdrawal and setting aside of the appointment of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure acting director-general Alec Moemi by the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Patricia de Lille, given what the DA says is his poor track record and a waste of taxpayers’ money.

In a statement, DA Shadow Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Samantha Graham-Maré said Moemi’s appointment raises a lot of red flags considering that he left a trail of destruction at the Department of Transport while still the substantive director-general.

Graham-Maré added that taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for De Lille’s failure to bring stability to her department.

DA Tshwane deputy chairperson joins ActionSA

ActionSA president Herman Mashaba announced on Thursday that the DA’s Tshwane regional deputy chairperson Michael Shackleton had joined ActionSA.

Shackleton resigned as a public representative and as a DA member on April 28.

He served as a DA MP, Member of the Provincial Legislature and a City of Tshwane Councillor.

Mashaba explained that Shackleton’s reasons for leaving the DA were not dissimilar to those of many others who had left the DA or those who were still attempting to leave the DA.
