The Democratic Alliance has won an important victory for the residents of Theewaterskloof, successfully overturning the unlawful attempt by ANC, PA and EFF councillors to remove DA Executive Mayor Lincoln de Bruyn.

The DA took legal action and stood our ground. And the DA won.

The removal of Cllr de Bruyn as Mayor has been rescinded, and he is back in office.

On Thursday, the Theewaterskloof Council was forced to reverse its unlawful decision to remove Mayor de Bruyn, after the DA made a formal legal demand.

Faced with the prospect of another High Court defeat, the Council voted to undo the removal of Mayor de Bruyn and restore him to the lawful position of Mayor.

This is a victory not only for the DA, but for every resident of Theewaterskloof who deserves a municipality focused on fixing services, managing public money responsibly and getting things done.

This is a victory for stability, over chaos.

While the ANC, PA and EFF chose political chaos, the DA chose the rule of law. While they attempted to destabilise the municipality, the DA fought to protect the stability needed to deliver services.

This is not the first time the DA has won this fight. In November 2024, the High Court ruled against a previous unlawful attempt to remove the DA Mayor, finding that Council had violated the Constitution, legislation and its own Rules of Order.

Twice, political opponents have attempted to undermine lawful DA governance. Twice, the DA has prevailed.

The latest DA victory comes at a critical moment for Theewaterskloof, as the municipality implements a Financial Recovery Plan to restore financial discipline, responsible governance and ultimately better service delivery. This is a sensitive time that needs stable leadership.

Residents cannot afford endless political games while their municipality works to recover.

The DA will use every lawful way to defend good governance, protect public resources and keep municipalities focused on delivery.

The ANC, PA and EFF tried to create chaos in Theewaterskloof, but the DA fought back and won. The residents of Theewaterskloof are the real winners.

It is good to see stability over chaos. That is the DA difference.

Mayor Lincoln de Bruyn leads Theewaterskloof into the upcoming election, and the DA stands by the track record of doing everything possible to turn the municipality around.

With voters support, the turnout can continue after 4 November.
