The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape appeals to all road users to exercise extreme caution, plan for delays, and avoid unnecessary travel as severe weather conditions continue to impact roads across the province.

The N1 between Touws River and Worcester has been severely affected by flooding and storm-related damage, while provincial mop-up and repair operations continue. The Western Cape Mobility Department has confirmed multiple other road closures and disruptions, with traffic control measures in place in several areas.

Motorists are urged to remain alert, as wet roads, reduced visibility, debris, and active repair crews create hazardous travelling conditions. With ongoing rainfall, conditions may change rapidly. Alternative routes have been identified where travel is unavoidable, and residents are encouraged to monitor updates on road closures and traffic control measures.

The DA-led Western Cape Government continues to work tirelessly to minimise the impact of the severe weather conditions affecting the province and to ensure that recovery and repair measures are implemented as swiftly as possible. We also commend the frontline workers, emergency personnel, traffic officials, and disaster management teams who continue to place themselves in dangerous conditions to keep our communities safe.

Prof. Nomafrench Mbombo, MPP, DA Western Cape Spokesperson on Mobility, said: “Behind every road closure is a family trying to get home safely, a worker trying to reach their job, or emergency teams working in dangerous conditions to protect our communities. We appeal to residents to remain patient, follow the instructions of traffic officials, and avoid travelling unless it is absolutely necessary. No meeting, trip, or appointment is more important than your life.”
