As the results of the 2026 Local Government Elections continue to come in, the Democratic Alliance is set to mark an important milestone in the party’s history. We have grown our support across the Eastern Cape, won the Kouga Local Municipality and are set to again become the largest party in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Residents of Kouga turned out in their thousands to recognise the progress made under a DA-led government and Mayor Hattingh Bornman. The DA will now govern with an increased majority, building on the 53.89% of the vote secured in the 2021 Local Government Elections.
Following 18 months of intensive campaigning, led by DA Nelson Mandela Bay mayoral candidate Retief Odendaal, the DA is set to once again become the largest political party in Nelson Mandela Bay. We are also firmly on track to secure more than 40% of the vote.
In Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, the DA has become the largest party, securing 40.12% of the vote and 10 seats in council. In Blue Crane Route Municipality, the DA won the most ward seats, securing four of the municipality's six wards.
We are equally proud of the progress made in Makana Local Municipality, where the DA increased its support from 17% in 2021 to 27.24% in 2026.
In Umzimvubu Local Municipality, Noziphiwo Mantshongo delivered an outstanding result by winning deep rural Ward 6 and removing the ANC from power in what is one of the party's biggest strongholds.
Voters in the Eastern Cape have made it clear that only the DA can deliver stability, effective service delivery and accountable leadership through a government that puts residents first and gets the Eastern Cape working for all.
Issued by DA EC Provincial leader Andrew Whitfield
