It is a very good thing that Parliament’s committees on Water and Health have agreed to hold a joint hearing tomorrow on Tshwane’s failures to supply clean water in Bronkhorstspruit.

The joint committee sitting will be on Friday, 23 October 2026.

Parliament’s Committees can and should exert thorough oversight of governance failures like this one, and should hold local governments accountable when hundred of people fall ill due to untreated water.

The failures of ActionSA-ANC Mayor Nasiphi Moya and her government have left the Bronkhorstspruit water supply untreated for multiple weeks, hundreds have become ill, and for three weeks they kept it secret from residents.

This week President Ramaphosa saw the seriousness of this Bronkhorstspruit water emergency, and spoke of the failure and the investigation around it. For the President to swoop in on a local Government matter is very embarrassing for the outgoing Mayor.

The DA members of Parliament in this joint committee sitting will participate fully, to expose and hold accountable the failures of the Tshwane ActionSA-ANC government.

The people of Tshwane must come first. They must have clean water restored. And they must see full accountability for the failures of government.
