The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal congratulates uMngeni Mayor, Chris Pappas on retaining the uMngeni Municipality.

Today, we can confidently proclaim that we will lead the municipality with a majority of more than 60% from the 48% we attained 5 years ago and continue with our plans to deliver for all residents of uMngeni.

In 2021, the voters of uMngeni entrusted the DA to lead this municipality with the thinnest of majorities and by a single seat. We placed our trust in Mayor Chris Pappas, his Deputy, Sandile Mnikathi and his team of Councillors.

The DA and Chris understood the mission: Deliver services for all residents regardless of where they live and their income status.

Over the last 5 years, they have worked incredibly hard to reorient this municipality from one of bankruptcy, corruption and indifferent delivery.

This was not an easy task, but they accepted it with enthusiasm and passion. Most importantly, they delivered on our manifesto.

Mayor Pappas and his team have done everything in their power, often in the face of hostile provincial government departments to get uMngeni Working for All.

In the four, 100% black township wards in the municipality, the DA won every single one of them with a commanding majority. We will continue with our mission to deliver for all residents in townships, rural and suburban areas. uMngeni will continue to be a beacon of hope in KZN.

The DA in KZN thanks the residents of uMngeni for this renewed mandate. We acknowledge the incredible dedication and commitment of the 600 strong campaign team and our candidates who worked day and night to achieve this result. They are the real heros!

The DA will communicate plans to hold a victory rally in due course.
