The people of KwaDukuza were presented with a defining contrast last night: a party with a plan to govern and a party armed with little more than slogans, theatrics and political noise.

In this public debate, our mayoral candidate, Cllr Privi Makhan, delivered a masterclass in leadership, governance and political maturity, demonstrating precisely why the DA is ready to get KwaDukuza working.

True to form, the MKP’s Doeshie Govender demonstrated that shouting about problems is considerably easier than explaining how to solve them.

When challenged on municipal legislation, the municipality’s finances and practical implementation strategies, the MKP failed to present credible answers. Beneath the political rhetoric lay an alarming absence of substance, preparation and any coherent programme of action.

The people of KwaDukuza deserve a mayor, not a megaphone.

Perhaps most disappointing was the resort to personal attacks against Cllr Makhan. When the arguments ran dry, attempts to demean her as a woman took their place. Such conduct has no place in a serious contest of ideas.

Yet, with characteristic grace, intellectual depth and composure, Privi rose above the insults and demonstrated the qualities of a leader who understands both the responsibilities of public office and the dignity it demands.

Governance is not a popularity contest. It requires competence, an understanding of the law, financial discipline and the ability to translate promises into measurable delivery.

Over the coming days, the DA will release key exchanges from the debate so that residents can assess for themselves the calibre of leadership being offered by those seeking to govern their municipality.

On 4 November, the people of KwaDukuza face a consequential choice: more chaos, excuses and political theatre, or a new chapter of accountable leadership and service delivery.

KwaDukuza cannot afford to exchange one form of political dysfunction for another.

The DA has presented a capable, prepared and determined mayoral candidate in Privi Makhan.

The choice is clear. Stop the chaos. Start service delivery! Vote DA to get KwaDukuza working.
