The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal is appalled that the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, which in the past openly supported removing King Misuzulu from the throne of the Zulu Nation, now pretends to support and endorse His reign because one of their own is appointed as Traditional Prime Minister.

The people of KZN should see through this – The MK Party cannot openly align with the faction of Prince Simakade in his legal and political challenge against King Misuzulu's position as King of the Zulu Nation, and then have one of its own serving the Monarchy as Traditional Prime Minster

The appointment of the MK Party’s iNkosi Chiliza as Traditional Prime Minister, brings a member of the MK Party into the closest inner circle of His Majesty King Misuzulu.

The DA reaffirms our utmost respect for the Zulu Royal Family and His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The appointment of the Traditional Prime Minister is solely the prerogative of His Majesty.

The King has every right to appoint, dismiss or retain individuals serving within the structures of the monarchy, and the DA fully respects that constitutional and customary authority.

Our concern is not with the King or any decision he has taken.

Our concern is with the blatant political opportunism and double standards of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which continues to treat the Zulu Monarchy as a political tool whenever it suits its agenda.

On one day the MK Party opposes His Majesty King Misuzulu, but on the next they are aligned. The politics of convenience displayed by the MK party shows KZN and South Africa who they really are.
