The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has not yet placed all the learners who applied on time in July for the 2024 academic year.

This is putting parents under pressure as they have to plan and budget for the 2024 school year.

The DA has been calling on the MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, to open the online placement as early as April to ensure that this process is completed by the end of October each year. This will help parents to plan properly.

We have noted that some parents have received placements far from where they stay or work. The department has not yet responded to their appeals, and this is creating more uncertainty.

The DA demands that the MEC ensure that all learners who applied on time are placed before the schools close in December. In addition, they should inform parents about the current status and the time frame to conclude the placement for all who applied for the 2024 academic year.

Failure to communicate the placement process will result in missing days of schooling and parents enrolling their children in unregistered and illegally operating schools in the province.
