The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) extends its unwavering revolutionary solidarity to the Communist Party of Cuba, the revolutionary government, and the heroic people of Cuba, who continue to defend socialism and the right to self-determination under one of the longest and most ruthless campaigns of imperialist aggression in modern history.

The CPS stands with the people of Cuba in light of renewed baseless claims by the US government, through its department of state, that Cuba has over the years waged a sustained campaign of subversion and terrorism against the US. These claims are used as a rationale for the ongoing strangulation of the Cuban people by the imperialist US regime while acting as a basis for future attacks. It is, on the contrary, the US government which has, through various means, including terrorism and military invasion in violation of international law, attacked the Cuban people’s right to national sovereignty and self-determination. Since 1992, the United Nations has passed 32 resolutions condemning the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and calling for its end.

We unequivocally condemn the continued US imperialist aggression against Cuba, including the policies that have contributed to the current oil shortages and electricity crisis. We demand the immediate and unconditional lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade, the removal of all unilateral coercive measures, and full respect for Cuba’s sovereignty and its people’s right to determine their own future free from foreign interference.

In recent months, Cuba has endured a deepening energy crisis brought about by a prolonged oil blockade imposed through the aggressive sanctions regime intensified under the administration of Donald Trump. The resulting fuel shortages have caused repeated nationwide electricity blackouts over the past six months, severely affecting hospitals, schools, public transport, food production, industry and other essential sectors upon which the Cuban people depend. These hardships are not the result of socialism, nor are they the consequence of administrative failure. They are the deliberate outcome of economic warfare designed to suffocate a sovereign nation into political submission.

This latest assault must be understood within the broader historical reality. For almost seven decades, Cuba has been subjected to an illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade by the US government. Successive administrations have maintained and, at different moments, intensified this policy in a systematic attempt to destroy the achievements of the Cuban Revolution. The current restrictions on Cuba’s access to fuel are therefore not an isolated development; they represent another stage in a continuous strategy aimed at undermining the material foundations of socialism.

The US regime cannot tolerate the existence of a successful socialist alternative that demonstrates the possibility of organising society around human need instead of private profit. Cuba’s continued commitment to universal healthcare, free education, scientific research, social planning and international solidarity stands as a living contradiction to the ideological claims of global capitalism. It is precisely because the Cuban Revolution has survived and continues to inspire oppressed peoples that imperialism seeks to isolate, punish and ultimately overthrow it.

The blockade against Cuba is not simply an attack on one country. It is a warning directed at every nation that seeks genuine political and economic independence. Imperialism seeks to establish a world in which no people can exercise sovereignty outside the dictates of monopoly capital. Countries that nationalise their resources, prioritise public ownership, or refuse subordination to imperialist interests become targets of sanctions, destabilisation, political interference and, where possible, military aggression.

Yet despite almost 70 years of relentless economic warfare, Cuba has refused to surrender. It continues to defend the fundamental socialist principle that healthcare is a right, education is a right, and human dignity cannot be reduced to the pursuit of profit.

As the CPS, we call upon justice-loving people of the world to intensify practical solidarity with Cuba. We remain convinced that imperialism, despite its military power and economic dominance, cannot permanently suppress the aspirations of humanity for freedom and equality.
