It has been all systems go for the 22nd Mpumalanga African National Congress (ANC) Elective Conference with many members singing in victory after the urgent court interdict was dismissed on Friday.

The court interdict was a dispute from branch members who claimed to have not been involved in some of the branch meetings.

The merits of the ANC members’ arguments were not heard in court given the urgency of the interdict.

ANC treasurer general Paul Mashatile said that the members who launched the court interdict against the conference had a right to do so, despite their loss.

The conference anticipates a major impact on who will become president of the party at the December conference.

After Limpopo, Mpumalanga is ANC’s strongest province electorally.

ANC NEC’s Nomvula Mokonyane said that the party was on a path of self-correction and renewal.

Mokonyane said that ANC had learned from the previous processes that led to the 2017 conference.

“We have now a common programme that applies across the country, guidelines adopted by MEC’S across the country and of importance; we also allow branches and structures an opportunity to be heard,” she said.
