Cosatu Western Cape is shocked and highly disturbed in the way the MEC has handled the feeding scheme saga in the Province. It is quite clear that the MEC is out of touch with the realities of what’s happening on the ground and lack leadership skills to deal with the matter.

While the President and his government is really trying very hard to prevent COVID – 19 from spreading, the MEC is doing the opposite. We condemn her conduct in the strongest possible terms and herewith support the call by SADTU for her immediate removal as MEC of Education in this Province.

We can’t allow that our children be subjected to the risk of being infected with COVID – 19, while there are other ways and means to feed our children.

We call on the Premier of the Western Cape to remove the MEC with immediate effect and to replace her with a capable person. We also call on the National Health Minister to intervene in this matter.

Furthermore, Cosatu also supports the call of COSAS to lay criminal charges against Brian Schreuder, the Head of the Western Cape Education Department. We also would like to make a call that the MEC also be charged for her failure to comply with the National Lockdown regulations in allowing innocent children to leave their houses.

We also call on the Human Rights Commission to investigate this matter, because we are of the view that the personal health of these poor kids is being put at risk.
