The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Nonhlanhla Ncube-Ndaba, has congratulated the six women appointed to the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provincial executive council by the newly appointed Premier of the province, Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube.

The committee notes that the majority of positions in the new executive council are now occupied by women. Furthermore, the committee has noted that these appointments were made on the basis of the women’s track records on service delivery and their commitments to the Premier’s call to change the lives of the people of KZN.

The MECs are Ms Nomagugu Simelane for Health, Ms Nonhlanhla Khoza for Social Development, Ms Neliswa Nkonyeni for Finance, Ms Bongi Sithole-Moloi for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ms Mbali Fraser for Education and Ms Amanda Mapena for Sports and Culture. These women are not new to positions of this nature and to the responsibility of serving the people. The committee therefore trusts that they will rise to this new occasion.

The committee is calling on these women to use their new positions to do all they can to improve the conditions under which women live in KZN and to ensure that value is added to government strategies to address inequality, poverty, unemployment and gender-based violence.

“The committee is always available to provide any support it can within its mandate. We wholeheartedly congratulate you on your new roles and wish you and the entire new executive council all the best,” said Ms Ncube-Ndaba.
