The City of Cape Town would like to inform all job-seekers that we are running an Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) registration drive at Sub-councils throughout the City. Read more below:

All unemployed residents who would like a chance to benefit from the EPWP programme are encouraged to put their names on the job-seekers database at their local Sub-council to be considered for possible work opportunities in future. Residents who have moved since originally registering on the database are also encouraged to attend the drive to update their information if necessary.

Furthermore, residents who have built up work experience since first registering on the database should provide updated CVs as this could qualify them for higher-skilled and better-paid opportunities. 

Once registered on the database, residents stand a chance to be randomly selected for short-term employment contracts. The programme has allowed the creation of very diverse work opportunities including, but not limited to: 

• Call centre workers 
• Data capturing 
• Learnerships in various sectors 
• Cleaning 
• Community liaison officers 
• Law Enforcement Auxiliary officers 
• Traffic wardens 
• Field workers

‘Over 170 000 work opportunities were created by the EPWP between 2017 and 2022, providing a valuable lifeline to those who have not yet been able to gain formal employment. Some of these recruits even went on to find permanent employment with the City or contractors working for the City as a result of their participation in the programme. 

‘In fact, more than 3 600 permanent worker positions have been filled by residents who have previously benefitted from the EPWP programme. This represents approximately 27% of new permanent workers appointed to the City,’ said Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management.

 Those who would like to register on the database should please bring the following:

Valid South African ID, or a valid work permit in the case of foreign nationals 

CV 

Proof of residence 

Please note that there are no fees associated with registering on the EPWP Jobs-seekers database. Anyone soliciting payment for registration or registration forms should be reported to the relevant authorities.
