“The DA urges the citizens of the Western Cape to get counted in the 2022 Census before the 30 April deadline.

We remain concerned with the undercounting of the Western Cape in the Census. According to StatsSA only about half of the province’s citizens have been counted.

Data collected in the Census forms the basis of many calculations that determine what share of funding provinces receive from National Government. The Western Cape has been short-changed in recent years based on the outdated 2011 Census data, and we cannot afford to be short-changed for another decade.

As the count only takes place once every 10 years, undercounting has massive consequences for the public, especially on the services that the Western Cape Government is able to provide, including education, healthcare and infrastructure.

The online registration process is still open until this Saturday. We encourage the people of the Western Cape to be proactive and not to wait for StatsSA officials to get counted. The public is urged to visit the Get Counted website, and make sure that the Western Cape receives enough funding to ensure continued and quality service delivery.”
