The City of Cape Town has been named the most trusted city in South Africa for the seventh time in a row, executive mayor Dan Plato said on Monday.

He said Cape Town was the most trusted metro according to Consulta’s latest Citizen Satisfaction Index (CSI) which measures trust and satisfaction by residents.

Plato said the accreditation followed Cape Town being named the most sustainable metro by Ratings Afrika.

“Of the eight metros polled, Cape Town has once again emerged as the best performing metro on the overall Citizen Satisfaction for ’Large Metros’ recording the highest score for the seventh consecutive year,” Plato said via a statement.

“Cape Town recorded a score of 66,0 out of a possible 100 in the latest index - a two-point improvement on its previous score of 64,1 in 2019. It is also more than 10-points above the par score of 55,7 for all municipalities and well ahead of all other metros.”

Plato said the latest accolade independently validated the city’s efforts to constantly improve.

Despite things being difficult during the Covid-19 national lockdown, Plato said the city had kept one goal in mind: to continue providing basic and essential services to the best of its abilities.

“Delivering services to the best of our ability, managing our resources in a sustainable manner, maintaining infrastructure responsibly and planning for our growing city as a place for all, while keeping a zero tolerance approach against corruption, is our commitment to our residents,” Plato said.

He said Cape Town was the closest in delivering the basic services of a local government to what its citizens would expect.

He said that according to the report: “ the sentiment analysis in the latest SA-CSI, with the exception of Cape Town, [showed] sentiment on every single measure is negative on the level of service experienced by citizens”.
