The Public Servants Association (PSA) is extremely concerned about the safety and wellbeing of educators in North West following the recent stabbing of a Deputy Principal at Mammutla Secondary School.

This incident highlights the increasingly unsafe and challenging conditions under which educators are expected to perform their duties. Violence, intimidation, and attacks against educators, particularly on school premises, are unacceptable and cannot be allowed. The PSA stands with the injured Deputy Principal and wishes him a full and speedy recovery. The Union also calls for appropriate support for all educators affected or traumatised by incidents of violence at schools.
 
The PSA calls on the North-West Department of Education to urgently strengthen safety and security measures at schools. This must include controlled access to school premises, adequate security personnel, effective monitoring, and rapid-response mechanisms. Decisive action is required against people who threaten, intimidate, or assault educators. The Department must also strengthen psychological support for educators exposed to traumatic incidents. Counselling, employee wellness programmes, and structured support mechanisms should be readily accessible as sustained assistance rather than once-off interventions after serious incidents.
 
The PSA is committed to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of educators and will continue engaging the Department of Education and relevant authorities to ensure that practical measures are implemented without delay. Educators have a right to perform their duties in a safe and secure working environment, free from violence, intimidation, and fear.
