The ANCYL welcomes the successful outcomes of the Provincial ANCYL Conference in Limpopo held from the 9th April 2010-11 April 2010.

The Provincial Conference in Limpopo faced resistance by a group contesting leadership who insisted on disrupting the conference and disrespecting the leadership of the ANC and branch delegates.

Contrary to the attempts made by an ill disciplined group to undermine the committment of branch delegates, the conference of Limpopo concluded its business successfully. The unruly and ill disciplined behaviour of some delegates resulted in them walking out of the conference and creating chaos. The safety of the majority of branch delegates could not be compromised and the police had to take action in order to allow the conference to proceed in the interests of branches who had travelled distances to participate in the conference.

Despite the calls made by the President of the ANCYL for delegates to return to the conference some persisted in their actions without regard for the majority of delegates. The former Deputy Secretary of the ANCYL Cde Thandi Moraka stole the conference credentials and attempted to flee from Makhado en route to Polokwane. She was then located by the police and found in possession of the conference credentials, an ID document and accreditation tags of delegates determined to collapse the Provincial Conference of the ANCYL.

A criminal case of theft was opened against her. The Conference proceeded and enjoyed the support of more than 70% of delegates who adopted credentials and the conference procedures. The Deputy President of the ANCYL chaired the Elections Committee and the top five officials were elected on the 10th April 2010. This was followed by the election of additional members on the 11th April 2010 and policy discussions.

The Provincial Conference of Limpopo was concluded successfully. The outcomes of the conference were endorsed by branch delegates, and presence of members of the Provincial Executive Committe of the ANC in Limpopo and members of the National Executive Committe of the ANCYL. The top five officials elected were:

Chairperson: Cde Frans Moswane
Deputy Chairperson: Cde Reginah Molokome
Secretary: Cde Jacob Lebogo
Deputy Secretary: Cde Gladys Manganye
Treasurer: Cde Ludere Rhudzani

The ANCYL applauds the discipline of branch delegates who committed themselves to fulfilling the tasks of the conference.

The ANCYL congratulates the newly elected leadership of the ANCYL in Limpopo and is convinced that it will unite in the delivery of youth development programmes to the young people of Limpopo.
