Broll Properties, Shop no 22 G & H – Mkuze: The ANC Nokuhamba Nyawo Region has uncovered widespread corruption and fraudulent issuing of tenders to underserving service providers under IFP controlled Jozini Local Municipality. Shockingly, is the involvement of the Mayor Cllr Mfanaye Mathe.

The ANC has evidence of his involvement in the selection and awarding of dubious contracts to undeserving service providers that are linked to him.

In addition, the ANC can confirm that more than R1, 5 million of municipal funds is being spent ,without council approval, for the exclusive benefit of the Mayor and Speaker Cllr Delani Mabika through the hiring of backup cars and bodyguards.

Most concerning, is the rampant abuse of limited resources through “Thank-you Rallies.” These are being staged continuously ever since the local government elections in November last year. Such activities have no direct impact in terms of the provision of water, electricity and job creation for the benefit of impoverished community of Jozini.

As the ANC, we are supporting ANC councillors in the council to hold the mayor accountable for his dismal failure to adhere to the Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003.  Chapter 7 states that the responsibilities of the mayor of a municipality include providing general political guidance over the fiscal and financial affairs of the municipality.

Lastly, the ANC will also be taking up steps including opening criminal charges with the South African Police Service. We want to ensure that those found to be involved in unscrupulous activities associated with supply chain management, including the mayor, land in prison.
