The ANC Provincial Conference of KwaZulu-Natal has progressed well following intense and highly contested PEC leadership. All processes leading to the nomination and eventually the election of the Provincial Officials were characterized by generally notable discipline and adherence to conference rules. The NEC also had to confront ill discipline characterized by conduct of filibustering by some delegates. Those who sang divisive songs were called to order and instructed not to do so. All top 5 positions were contested by a total of 10 candidates which led to secret ballot elections that took place overnight.

All necessary steps were taken to ensure a credible outcome following the adoption of credentials yesterday morning. The following comrades were duly elected through a process supervised by an independent electoral commission:

Provincial Secretary: Super Zuma

Deputy Provincial Secretary: Mluleki Ndobe

Provincial Treasurer: Nomusa Dube-Ncube

We are also encouraged by the observation by electoral commission that the elections were free and fair

The ANC NEC takes this opportunity to congratulate the newly elected Provincial Officials of KwaZulu-Natal. We are confident that collectively and individually they have extensive leadership experience and exposure. This leadership collective, together with the PEC additional members yet to be elected, will be expected to provide the much needed leadership to unite and continue to build a formidable and effective ANC in the province.

At the end of this conference we expect all lobby groups that formed part of the campaign machinery, to be dissolved and all contesting comrades to work together to lead ANC structures in the province as well as alliance and to prepare the ANC to embark on a cohesive and defining campaign of the province for the forthcoming local government elections.
