The ANC in Gauteng has officially launched the "Mayihlome" phase of its local government election campaign, declaring a fierce determination to win a renewed, full mandate to transform municipal governance across the province.

The party converged its top tier of provincial leadership, leagues, alliance formations, and public representatives at Turffontein, in Johannesburg, on Monday.

The meeting served as a rallying point to streamline voter turnout strategies in the hopes of securing a decisive victory at the upcoming November 4 polls.

The core objective of the gathering was to unite the movement's organisational machinery behind its officially registered candidates.

"Our leadership, branches, leagues, alliance formations and volunteers carry this responsibility together, directing the organised strength of the movement towards the wards and voting districts where the election will be fought and won," stated ANC Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) coordinator Sochayile Khanyile.

He emphasised that current internal discussions place branch unity and candidate support at the centre of the campaign's operational strategy.

Addressing prior internal democratic contests, Khanyile made it clear that personal ambitions must now yield to the collective goal.

“Comrades who contested nominations, the serving councillors and the selected councillor candidates carry a common responsibility to unite society and the movement behind an ANC victory," Khanyile explained. "The collective experience, capacity and campaigning strength of the organisation belongs to this common effort."

Recognising shifting voter sentiments, the ANC Gauteng leadership stated that it is taking the integrity of its selected candidates and the calibre of its public representatives seriously.

The formal introduction of these nominated candidates to various communities is already underway.

Khanyile highlighted that the party is directly confronting issues that dominate daily community complaints, including chronic electricity supply failures, damaged or unreplaced transformers, and the heavy toll of load reduction, severe water scarcity and poor road maintenance and skyrocketing unemployment rates and rampant crime.

According to the PTT coordinator, these core grievances are uppermost priorities in the ANC's current campaign and define the explicit mandates of its public representatives going forward.

The ANC in Gauteng is deploying its public representatives across national, provincial, and local spheres to drive immediate interventions.

The party plans to actively report back on progress through sustained, face-to-face community dialogue.

This boots-on-the-ground approach will be heavily intensified via local constituency offices and municipal caucuses through aggressive outreach programmes, Khanyile said.
