The civil rights organisation AfriForum yesterday handed over the organisation’s Malema Dossier to representatives of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs. This committee approved a bill in July that requires the Trump administration to conduct a full review of US-South Africa relations and to identify South African politicians who are eligible for targeted sanctions.

This bill is currently awaiting debate and amendment in the House of Representatives before a vote will be held on it. Should this bill become law, the abovementioned House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs will play a key role in its execution, so the fact that they now have the Malema Dossier is critical.

The comprehensive Malema Dossier provides the basis for international action, such as targeted sanctions against EFF leader Julius Malema, by outlining his history of incitement to violence, alleged involvement in corruption and his support for terrorist groups.

According to Ernst van Zyl, Head of Public Relations at AfriForum, Malema’s firearms case verdict proved that the fight for justice often requires patience. “Therefore, AfriForum is doing everything in our power to help pave that long road to justice.”

“As part of our intensified international campaign, AfriForum will publish and distribute a new ‘The World Needs to Know’ report on discrimination and hate speech against minorities later this year,” concludes Van Zyl.
