ActionSA has formally lodged a complaint with the Public Protector South Africa, calling for an independent investigation into the serious allegations made by suspended Mpumalanga SAPS Commissioner, Daphney Semakaleng Manamela.

These allegations, which include claims of corruption, political interference, and the protection of criminal elements within the South African Police Service, raise serious concerns about the integrity of policing in Mpumalanga.

ActionSA believes that these claims warrant urgent and independent scrutiny, as they point to a potentially compromised law enforcement environment that undermines public trust and the rule of law.

The complaint requests the Public Protector to investigate whether there has been maladministration, abuse of power, or failure to act within SAPS, including at senior leadership level.

ActionSA further emphasised the need for strong protections for whistleblowers who may come forward with information during the course of such an investigation.

The people of Mpumalanga deserve transparency, accountability, and a police service that is free from corruption. ActionSA will continue to pursue all available avenues to ensure that the truth is uncovered.

Issued by ActionSA Member of Mpumalanga Legislature Thoko Mashiane MPL
