ActionSA Women's Forum is deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal killing of an 18-year-old learner from Braamfischerville, whose life was tragically cut short in a violent panga attack.

No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child in such horrific circumstances. What should have been a future filled with hope, opportunity and promise has instead become a source of unimaginable grief for a family and a community that must now come to terms with this devastating loss.

We unequivocally condemn this heinous act of violence. The increasing brutality with which young lives are being taken should shock the conscience of every South African. Our children deserve to grow up in safe communities, attend school without fear and pursue their dreams free from the threat of violence.

While the circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation, we call on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and decisively to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and brought before the courts. Justice delayed is justice denied, and the family of this young learner deserves answers.

We further urge anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward and cooperate with the authorities. Communities cannot remain silent when violence steals the lives of our children.

The Gauteng ActionSA Women's Forum stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to them, as well as to the learner's friends, fellow pupils, educators and the broader Braamfischerville community who have been affected by this tragedy.

As a society, we must reject the normalisation of violence and commit ourselves to protecting our children. Every young life matter, and every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.

May the family find strength and comfort during this painful period, and may justice prevail.
