ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba, paid a courtesy visit to the home of former Bafana Bafana Coach and living legend, Shakes Mashaba. The President’s delegation was comprised of ActionSA Gauteng Member of Legislature, Emma More, ActionSA Joburg Caucus Leader, Cllr Marcel Coutriers, and Joburg MMC Candidates, Cllr Sarah Wissler, Zandile Dabula and Nandi Ndaba.

The visit comes after learning about his ailing condition due to prostate cancer. It is for this reason that President Mashaba elected to spend time with him and his family to offer support and extend well wishes as he battles illness.

ActionSA recognises Coach Mashaba as a patriot who has contributed significantly to South Africa’s globally recognised sporting heritage. He is an inspiration to millions across our communities due to his commitment and outstanding service to the development of the nation’s robust soccer culture.

Like many fanatics of the game, he left a lasting impression on the President in the 1970s. During the dark days of Apartheid, he made his debut at Orlando Pirates and finessed his skill to become a star player of the revered Buccaneers.

Engaging with the family provided the President with a clear picture of the extent of his condition, as well as the resources and support that are critical to ensure that he recovers. Now more than ever, Coach Mashaba deserves our care, support, and appreciation during this difficult period of his life.

President Mashaba has donated R200 000.00 in his personal capacity to support Coach Mashaba’s recovery. This donation symbolises the high esteem that the President holds for our living legend. To bolster this donation, ActionSA calls on citizens to assist Coach Mashaba through all forms of donations.

ActionSA extends its gratitude to the Mashaba family for granting us permission to stand in solidarity with him. We wish him much-needed strength on what we hope will be a successful journey to recovery and good health.

To donate your contribution, please send to the following account that has been opened to receive your generosity. Any amount is welcome. The family will receive it with gratitude.
