ActionSA Joburg MMC Candidate for Human Settlements, Zandile Dabula, has launched the Online Reporting Portal for Illegal Occupation of RDP Houses by Foreign Nationals. This platform emanates from recognising the injustice of South African citizens who are marginalised from access to public housing due to foreign nationals who occupy the houses and use them for profitable means.

This online portal marks a decisive step towards exposing corruption that is prevalent in housing allocations which is characterised by unlawful occupation instead of affording indigent South Africans with the dignity of a place to call home.

ActionSA’s Online Portal is accessed through a link where residents can submit their details, the location of the unlawful occupation, and supporting evidence. Every report will be assessed and responded to using the information provided, with matters escalated for further action where necessary. 

Since 1994, millions of families who follow due process remain on waiting lists with meaningless allocation letters and reference numbers. This is not the 32 years of democracy that protects the rights and dignity of South Africans as enshrined in The Constitution.

ActionSA has consistently maintained that government resources must be protected from abuse and that housing allocation processes must be transparent, accountable, and free from corruption and political interference. 

Our position is that illegal occupation of government housing undermines law and order by affording public benefits to individuals who have not followed due process to qualify. ActionSA is determined to support communities and assist them.

We recognise that exposing corruption may place residents at risk of intimidation. As such, we want to assure residents that their information will be handled with confidentiality to safeguard their safety. 

The rule of law cannot be selectively applied, and unlawful occupation should never be rewarded at the expense of law-abiding citizens.

This injustice extends beyond the RDP housing programme to multi-million rand government-funded developments such as the Alexandra Renewal Project, Lufhereng Mega Housing Development, Fleurhof Integrated Housing Development and South Hills Mixed Housing Development to name a few. 

Despite these projects collectively intending to reduce the city’s housing backlog, many deserving beneficiaries remain waiting for a promise that never materialises.
