ANC president Jacob Zuma's lawyers have submitted their representations regarding his case to the National Prosecuting Authority, NPA spokesman Tlali Tlali said on Tuesday.

"They have submitted the representations today... and the NPA is considering these representations," Tlali said.

He however would not disclose the time and form the representations were handed in, nor would he disclose their contents.

"It is not possible... what's important is that they have submitted during the course of business today (Tuesday)", he said when probed on details of the representations.

Zuma's lawyer Michael Hulley told Sapa on Monday that the documents were "confidential" and would not be released to the media.

"It is a confidential document for the benefit of the NPA," he said.

Zuma's lawyers were supposed to have made representations to the NPA on January 26 but were unable to meet that deadline. They were at the time preparing an application to the Constitutional Court, as well as an appearance in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

The right to make representations to the NPA before being charged again for corruption alongside arms company Thint, has formed part of Zuma's overall legal strategy.

The representations are usually in letter form, and are then considered by the authority.

A recent Supreme Court of Appeal ruling reinstated the contested charges.

Zuma and Thint ultimately apparently intend filing an application in August for a permanent stay of prosecution.
