Title: J Zuma: Message of condolence to Klaaste family
MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO THE KLAASTE FAMILY FROM DEPUTY PRESIDENT, JACOB ZUMA, 25 June 2004
LALA NGOXOLO MFO KA-MADIBA
It was with deep shock and sadness that we received the news of the passing away of Dr Aggrey Klaaste, a true patriot and one of the foremost nation builders of our time.
Dr Klaaste will always be remembered as one of the leading journalists of his era, who played a critical role in the development of African journalism in our country.
He was more than just a spectator and recorder of events. He was a catalyst for change and a respected community leader who was concerned about the development of society and his country. We have lost one of the most incisive and critical minds of our time, who was concerned about the representation of the life of Black people truthfully and in the right perspective in the media.
The contribution that Dr Klaaste made is monumental. Although his departure will leave a huge vacuum, we are comforted by the fact that he has left behind a huge legacy for younger journalists and indeed all South Africans in the pursuit of a better society. The best tribute we can pay to him will be to continue with the Nation Building projects that he drove with such a passion.
We are saddened by the inability to accompany him to his final resting place on Saturday 26 June, but are with the family in spirit.
We would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives.
Sithi duduzekani mama nabantwana, kanye nomndeni wonke wakwaMadiba. Akwehlanga lungehlanga.
Hamba kahle Madiba! Uyibekile induku ebandla.
