Zuma announces new judicial appointments

President Jacob Zuma announced new judicial appointments on Wednesday in accordance with the constitution and on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).


"The President congratulated the judges on their appointments and wished them well in their new roles," the Presidency said in a statement.

Zuma appointed Judge Dunstan Mlambo, as judge president of the Labour Court and the Labour Appeal Court, Judge Clement Temba Sangoni as judge president of the Eastern Cape High Court, Judge Herbert Qed'usizi Msimang as judge president of the KwaZulu-Natal High Court, and Judge Mashangu Monica Leeuw as judge president of the North West High Court.

Judge Willem Jacobus Van der Merwe was named deputy judge president of the High Court in Pretoria.


Appointed as judges in the Labour Appeal Court were Judge Simon King Ndlovu, Judge Lazarus Pule Tlaletsi, and Judge Malcolm John David Wallis. Labour court judges appointed were David Hofmeyer Gush, advocate Robert George Orford Lagrange, and Anton Joubert Steenkamp.

 

Appointed as judges in the Eastern Cape High Court were Nomatamsanqa Geraldine Beshe, advocate Robert Elliot Griffiths SC, Mandela Makaula, Judge Irma Schoeman, and John Eldrid Smith. Western Cape High Court judges named were Chantel Moira Jennifer Fortuin, advocate Patric Alfred Lee Gamble SC, and advocate Elizabeth Theron Steyn SC.


KwaZulu-Natal High Court judges appointed were advocate Graham Lopes SC, and Judge Dhayanithie Pillay.


Appointed as judges in the High Courts in Pretoria and Johannesburg were advocate Hans-Joachim Adolf Bernhard Fabricius SC, advocate Majake Meshack Mabesele, Peter Malose Mabuse, Motsamai Abraham Makume, Natvarlal Ranchod, and advocate Neil Brock Tuchten SC.
