Zimbabwe's ruling party and two factions of the opposition on Tuesday will begin formal talks to solve the country's political crisis, an official with the opposition Movement for Democratic Change said.

"There was convergence among all the parties that the dialogue had to start as soon as the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) was done, hence the resumption of that process today," the official said on condition of anonymity.

The official said MDC representatives would fly to South Africa for the negotiations, which come a day after the opposition agreed to two weeks of talks with President Robert Mugabe's ruling ZANU-PF.
