The YCL restates its support for Deputy President Jacob Zuma, and believe that until due processes of the law have been completed, he remains innocent.
We are concerned that this decision is followed by a political trial that was conducted by Bulelani Ncquka, former Director of Public Prosecutions, has initiated and concluded the trial of the Deputy President Jacob Zuma in the media.
We believe that Deputy President Jacob Zuma’s rights as enshrined in the constitution have been violated, and hope that the decision to release the Deputy President is not seen as a guilt-verdict based on the Shabir Shaik trial.
In the same light, we condemn corruption, but we also condemn the violation of human rights and disrespect for the basic tenet of our law which says”Innocent until proven guilty”.
