The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) congratulates Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on his new appointment as the Chancellor of the University of Venda, succeeding Cyril Ramaphosa. This is a progressive step towards addressing the challenges that are still confronted by the Institution.
We wish to encourage the newly appointed chancellor to bring about much needed transformation in the university with regards to infrastructural development and academia. Black institutions of higher learning are still seen as inferior in comparison to their white counter parts. This is obviously to a large extent as a result of their marginalisation in the past and this perception unfortunately still prevails today. We hope that Chancellor Kgalema Motlanthe, will spearhead transformation even further to institutions of higher learning which are still predominantly white.
The YCLSA also encourages Progressive Students movements' within the University to work hand in hand with the Chancellor in order to get a clear perspective on challenges confronted by students; such a commitment from both parties can only be fruitful for the institution and all stakeholders. We wish him well in his new appointment and affirm our support in any programme that seeks to advance access to higher education for the poor and the working class
