The Young Communist league of South Africa (UFasimba), has observed disturbing claims by media of the possibility of Eugene De Cock being pardoned by the president. This is of serious concern as any attempt to do so would be undermining the gains of our revolution.
Savages like Eugenie De Cock and Janusz Walus were instrumental in the murders and brutal killings of our people and revolutionaries like Cde. Chris Hani. Most of these cases have not yet been laid to rest as there are still unanswered questions with regards to the truth; the families of victims have not found closure and such a decision can only be equated to rubbing salt on their wounds.
The Truth and Reconciliation commission was not in any way a judicial process and therefore it can never be seen as tantamount to justice being served. No amount of remorse or sympathetic behaviour will bring back the lives of the victims that were murdered by this apartheid monster. Cadre Winnie Madikizela Mandela poses a very significant question in her asking if families of the victims have been consulted.
Eugene De Kock's justification as to why he should be given the presidential pardon is absurd and should simply be dismissed as a ploy to avoid punishment. He cannot claim that he will assist Government intelligence to expose Afrikaaner reactionaries when he himself is still seen as one of them; we believe that this is not enough substantiation to validate the pardon. There are other Afrikaaners that could assist government for this specific investigation and if by any means his remorse was genuine he would have given this evidence previously.
The YCLSA respects the President's executive powers to make presidential pardons however we firmly believe that any attempt to release him (Eugene De Kock) will be deemed as counter revolutionary and we will stand firm in opposing that decision provided it is taken. Eugene De Kock and his cronies must remain in prison where they belong.
