The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] congratulates newly-elected SA Football Association President Kirsten Nematandani who ascended to the throne unopposed. The YCLSA further wants to applaud both Dr. Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordan for having withdrawn and acted in the interest of our football chose keep SAFA united as we move towards FIFA 2010.
We believe that the politics that dominated their contest (albeit democratic) was likely to affect our smooth preparations for the World Cup. We urge the newly elected Nematandani, to move beyond the divisive politics in football and concentrate on ensuring that our soccer team delivers the prestigious FIFA World Cup next year.
We believe that some of the challenges that he faces in the long-term includes:
Development of football from grassroots by fostering investment in better soccer public facilities and soccer development academies;
Dealing with infighting at lower levels of the Association;
Ensuring that the SAFA Leagues are competitive;
Leadership of both University and School Soccer by ensuring resources and quality leadership for the Unions at that levels; and attracting more sponsorships and resources for soccer development at rural and grassroot level.
We wish the new President and the leadership all the best in their quest to take soccer to greater heights.
