The Young Communist League of South Africa (Gauteng) supports the highly successful protest led by student and political formations in the University of Pretoria.
We believe that the demands raised by these formations are genuine and legitimate given the corporatisation of the institution as well as its snail pace approach to transformation.
The University of Pretoria was one of the key institutions in reproducing and preserving the racist and apartheid ideals during the apartheid era in South Africa.
As the YCLSA, we rally behind the students' struggles, particularly those at the heart of the working class and the poor.
The key demands that need to be tackled urgently in the interests of the working class and the poor students are:
· The cancelation of the September 8, 2010 SRC election poll

· The shutting down of Religiously biased Black and white residences e.g. Vortrekker.Sonop

· The complete annulment of the 2006 Student Governance Constitution

· An amendment to the Internet Policy which would make internet access to be free

· The repeal of the current perusal policy thus allowing all students to peruse their scripts after examinations regardless of their class status

Issued by YCLSA Provincial Office
