ANC Youth League (ANCYL) spokesman Floyd Shivambu has been suspended by the Young Communist League (YCL), an official said on Sunday.

"Yes we can confirm that he has been suspended, but we wont be discussing this until the disciplinary process is concluded," YCL spokesman Gugu Ndima told Sapa.

Without confirming what charges were levelled against Shivambu, she said that Shivambu had not yet received the charges.

According to newspaper reports Shivambu was suspended for allegedly calling SA Communist Party deputy general secretary and Deputy Transport Minister Jeremy Cronin a racist.

"I've never been given any notice about anything. You ask the YCL [about the suspension]," Shivambu said.

He earlier dismissed allegations that he had been suspended as absolute "nonsense".
