The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] applauds the Department of Higher Education and Training hard work in introducing the Further Education and Training Colleges Amendment Bill.

We are also happy over the fact that this bill will regulate the employment of college staff in order to provide stability and enhance retention of staff employed in the Further Education and Training College Sector. This will ensure that the majority of staff in the College sector are directly employed by the State.

As the Young Communist League we see this bill both as means to strengthen the FET sector and as a way of providing secured jobs for the workers in this sector. The lack of qualified staff in FET was amongst many issue discussed by the delegates at our National University Based Branch Summit, we therefore see this bill as very important amongst many other interventions we would like to see the Department taking in addressing the challenges in this sector.
