The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg takes this opportunity to announce that the three candidates short-listed for the position of Vice-Chancellor and Principal, presented to the wider Wits community today. Their respective CVs and statements of intents were made available to the wider University community about 10 days ago.
The three short-listed candidates are:
- Prof. Yunus Ballim, currently the Vice-Principal and Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic at Wits,
- Prof. Adam Habib, currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation at the University of Johannesburg, and
- Dr Liesbeth Botha, a researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
Various Wits constituencies are currently commenting on the CVs, statements of intent and presentations. These deliberations will be fed into the interview process which takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 24 November 2012.
The three candidates will be interviewed by the Senior Appointments Selection Committee (SASC), which comprises of about 20 people representing Wits’ internal and external constituencies and governance structures.
The SASC may make recommendations which will then serve before the University’s Forum, Senate and other governance structures. It will serve before the Wits University Council on the 7th of December 2012 and an announcement about the possible candidate may be made after this meeting.
The new Vice-Chancellor and Principal will be expected to shadow the current Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Loyiso Nongxa for several months. Prof. Nongxa’s term ends on 31 May 2013.
