The Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) would continue singing "Die Stem", the apartheid-era national anthem, its secretary-general Andre Visagie said on Friday.

"It is time we stick to our culture and sing the national anthem.

"We are singing Die Stem and we won't let go," he said in response to questions from journalists on why the organisation took offence to the singing of "shoot the boer", when it continued to sing "Die Stem" and hoist the old South African flag, and the "vierkleur".

He said that the song was a prayer to the God they worshipped.

"We don't say kill someone from another race group."

Visagie condemned the attack by African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) leader Julius Malema on a BBC journalist during a media briefing on Thursday.

He condemned the way he humiliated the "white man".

Visagie added that President Jacob Zuma and the ANC were building a nation by suppressing the language, culture and religion of other people.

"We will fight this even if it takes our lives... We are not racist, we are nationalists," he said.

White farmers worked hard to get their farm whereas others got it free from government along with Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) houses, Visagie told the media.

"We work in school... and after school we work... we save our money, buy our farms and work hard for what we get.

"We are not fortunate because government does not give us farms from other nations or RDP houses."

He said that all the boers wanted was a piece of land in each province to make it their own with their own culture and own language.

The AWB would meet government sometime this week along with the Minister of Police.

"We urge our members not to take part in any election because there is no way we will win."

He compared the elections to swimming, saying: "We can't swim and we won't win."

Government had agreed to take part in the negotiations, he said.
