Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, today congratulated 77 learners who graduated with Social Auxiliary Work qualifications from the Hugenote College in Wellington.

Key to the success of this initiative has been adopting a whole-of-society approach, which involves building partnerships with the private sector, NGOs, and individuals in our communities.

The course is a partnership between the Health & Welfare SETA, the Hugenote College, and the Western Cape Department of Social Development (DSD).

The Social Auxiliary Worker graduates, made up of staff from all over the province, will assist the department’s social workers by providing services and counselling support to individuals, families, and the communities in the Western Cape.

The top student from the course was Mr. Llewelyn Wright from the DSD George Local Office, which falls under the Eden Karoo Region. The Eden Karoo Region also scooped top honours for having had students who performed the best.

Our effort to progressively build capacity in the Department, in spite of the severe budget cuts from National Government, is in line with the National Development Plan which calls on the department to develop a capable workforce to deliver services.

The Department will continue to build partnerships that move us towards realizing our vision of building a self-reliant society. This partnership is yet again an example of the good that can be achieved if we work ‘Better Together’.
