Title: M van Schalkwyk: Vote for stability in Western Cape
The voters of the Western Cape should be aware of the disadvantages of having a weak and divided provincial government, as is the case currently in the KwaZulu-Natal IFP-led administration.
Delivery has been severely hampered by the political tensions in the province between the IFP and ANC. These tensions have got markedly worse since the DA linked up with the IFP in the opportunistic "Ulundi Alliance" last year.
In contrast, the Western Cape is an excellent example of the kind of benefits that flow from a co-operative governance arrangement which is participated in, in a bona fide way by those involved.
The achievements of the Western Cape government, led in an outstanding way by the Premier and NNP National Leader, Marthinus van Schalkwyk, are there for all to see.
Viewed objectively, the Western Cape government has performed and delivered extremely well since it was constituted by the NNP and ANC and in every field, including health and education, the Western Cape sets an example and standards which are very difficult to emulate.
My advice to the voters in the Western Cape: In your own interests and those of your beautiful and dynamic province, don’t change a winning formula and be sure to vote for more of the same quality governance and delivery by voting for the NNP on 14 April 2004, and thereby for Marthinus van Schalkwyk as Premier again.
