Title: Van Schalkwyk: Christmas Message
MESSAGE BY WESTERN CAPE PREMIER, MARTHINUS VAN SCHALKWYK
CHRISTMAS: A TIME OF HOPE AND RECONCILIATION
Christmas brings with it a message of hope, of the triumph of good over evil and love over hate. It reminds us of God's unselfish love for all mankind. It is a time to share and celebrate the birth of Christ with the rest of the world. It is a time of reflection and joyous celebration that brings together communities, families and friends in joy.
But it is during our celebrations that we must remember those in our communities and around the world who have suffered loss and those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We pray that they may find strength in the knowledge that Christmas points us beyond the sometimes painful realities of the moment to the love of Christ that sustains us and guides us, bringing wholeness and healing to all the people of the world.
Christmas time is also a reminder that Christians and non-Christians alike must build our common future together. We are reminded of the fact that our differences do not exist to divide us, but that they are there to enrich our lives. It is a time to bridge the social and economic divides of class and race and time to take hands, embracing the message of Christmas - respect for one another.
