Under the agreement, signed by Kenyan Finance Minister David Mwiraria and USAID's Country Director to Kenya Kiertsak Toh, the $24,8-million grant will be used to promote democracy and governance, rural development, natural resource management, education, the battle against HIV/AIDS and family planning.
Mwiraria said the cash will bolster sustainable reforms and accountable governance.
It will also help address the threat to natural resources caused by exploitation.
USAID has granted Kenya $158,8-million since 1998, including $56,1-million for the victims of the 1998 bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi, in which more than 200 people were killed, most of them Kenyans. – Sapa-AFP.
