This follows an announcement by the Cape Town Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry that a special joint interim council would be set up by the chamber and the Western Cape branch of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) and tasked with the formation of the new body.
Each organisation will have ten representatives on the interim council and five on the joint interim executive committee with the objective of negotiating the integration of the two bodies.
The Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut, the Foundation for African Business and Consumer Services, the SA Chamber of Business and other organisations will be invited to become part of the unification process.
The joint interim council will begin its work before mid-August.
The chairmanship of the joint interim council will be on a rotational basis with a four-month cycle, with Cape Regional Chamber president Chris Nissen taking the chair for the first four months and it going to Nafcoc Western Cape president Nokuthula Mathe for the second four-month period. – Sapa.
