The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is dismayed that the African National Congress (ANC) cannot admit that the system it uses to deploy its comrades in strategic state institutions is crippling the economy of the Country.
The UDM has been vociferous about the appointment of suitable and skilled administrators - as opposed to the ANC’s cadre-deployment of whoever has the most political clout at any given time. The ANC cannot say it is fighting corruption, because its high-ranking officials and members are the very ones who appear to be the dishonest ones.
The recent arrest of Mr Dan Mofokeng (former Gauteng Housing MEC), together with Mr Phil Mohlahlane (former Head of the Agriculture Department and Acting CEO of the Land Bank) for the alleged embezzlement of funds from the Land Bank is shocking.
If Messrs Mofokeng and Mohlahlane are found guilty, a harsh sentence should be meted out, because such actions would have taken assistance away from the deserving beneficiaries of Land Bank. Some farmers might have been kept afloat if it had not been for this alleged dishonesty. It is morally reprehensible to misuse funds earmarked for poor and emerging farmers.
The UDM urges the ANC to come to its senses and stop this culture of ‘comrades in corruption’ that is eating away at the Nation. Jobs for buddies and cronies are wrong. Enough is enough.
The ANC cannot claim to be on the side of the poorest of the poor if its trusted members take resources and income away from our people who are in need.
