Two Johannesburg healthcare facilities - Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital - have been issued with disconnection notices due to unpaid electricity bills.
City Power claims they owe a combined sum of more than R30-million.
On Thursday, the utility held a "cut-off operation", targeting 10 businesses and residents.
Among the businesses that were disconnected were Telkom, which owes almost R3-million after defaulting on payments in 2021, according to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
City Power also went to the two hospitals and issued them with pre-termination notices.
Mangena said Helen Joseph Hospital owes R23-million to City Power and Rahima Moosa owes more than R7-million.
"In our visit, we made it clear that failure to pay in the next two weeks will result in immediate cut-offs," Mangena said.
The Gauteng health department had not responded by the time of publication. Their response will be added once received.
News24 previously reported that both hospitals were affected by water shortages in Johannesburg last month, and that workers at Rahima Moosa hospital brought their own water to work because the taps had run dry.
The health department said water supply had stabilised after a few days, with the help of water tankers and borehole water.
